The Peugeot 408 will come to market with two PHEV versions
The French firm with the lion has just officially presented the new 408, a crossover with a modern and aggressive design that will hit the market early next year. Peugeot will offer a wide range of versions, among which we will find Two plug-in hybrids and one fully electric which will be marketed a few months later.
Peugeot places the new 408 within the C segment. To a certain extent, we could say that it is a concept similar to the C5 X that Citroën launched on the market in 2021. However, the new 408 is somewhat shorter, at 4.69 metres long, compared to the first one's 4.80 metres. The wheelbase is, however, the same in both models with 2.79 meters. While the boot capacity is slightly larger in the C5 X, at 545 litres, compared to the 536's 408 litres.

Both models are also based on the same platform, Stellantis' EMP2. In addition to the versions with combustion engines as the sole powertrain, Peugeot will offer a pair of plug-in hybrid versions, with 132 and 165 kW of powerrespectively.
What can we expect from the Peugeot 408?
Although Peugeot has not revealed any further details about these plug-in hybrid versions, it is possible to conclude some of their specifications by looking at the 308, which coincidentally uses the same platform. In the plug-in hybrid version of the 308 with 165 kW of combined power, the combustion engine offers 133 kW, compared to 81 kW from the electric motor. On the other hand, the maximum speed in electric mode of this model is 135 km/h.
Assuming that the battery pack of the 408 PHEV is the same 12.4 kWh capacity, it is expected that this new model can travel More than 50 km in fully electric mode without consuming a single drop of petrol. As far as recharging is concerned, it will probably be equipped as standard with a 3.7 kW internal charger, with the possibility of selecting an optional 7.4 kW charger.

The lion firm has not released the price list for the different versions of the new 408 either. Although, to give us an idea, for the plug-in hybrid version of the Citroën C5 X with 165 kW of power You have to pay about 45 thousand euros.
Peugeot will produce all 408 units for the European market at its Mulhouse plant in France. The company plans to start selling the model in China as well, although it will do so with units produced in that country.
