This is what the ultra-fast charging hubs that Audi is preparing will look like

Audi is developing a new concept for fast charging stations for its vehicles and hopes to have a first prototype operational during the second half of this year. The company's intention is to be able to assess the feasibility of this project and its possible large-scale application in the real world.

The German manufacturer wants to go a little further than what they offer the usual charging stations, and that is why he speaks of Charging hubs, specifically using the term Audi charging hub. In short, it is about combining a charging station with a leisure area, also using a backup battery system for the electricity supply.

Each of these Audi Charging Hubs will six 300 kW charging points on the ground floor, at street level. Customers will arrive with their vehicles to start a charge and will then have the option to access an upper level where they can relax while the process is completed.

Cells with a certain percentage of degradation are still useful for these hubs.

The company also plans to give a second life to the cells of some of its test vehicles, reusing them in these facilities for energy storage. In this way, hopes to reduce costs in the installation of high voltage supply lines.

According to the company itself, the batteries installed in these charging parks will have a total capacity of 2.45 MWh; only a standard 400 volt line is needed to provide enough energy for the six 300 kW charging points to be operational. The batteries will be charged continuously, day and night, and will act as a buffer when the demand for energy is greater.

Audi also points out that One of the advantages of this concept is its flexibility and scalability.. These hubs, which have been designed using the modular system of freight containers, can be transported, installed and adapted to the particular conditions of each location. The company intends to install the first of them in Germany as part of a pilot program during the second half of this year. The exact location, however, has not yet been decided.
