Future electric Macan could use Audi and Porsche's PPE platform

The replacement for the Porsche Macan could be electric, and use the PPE platform developed jointly by Audi and Porsche.

Recently (within the past year) Audi revealed its future plans for its new range of electric cars. A range that will be articulated based on four platforms, some of them developed in collaboration with Porsche.

And we already know Porsche's electrification plans, which have not only just presented the entry-level variants of the Taycan. In the future, there is talk that even Future Porsche 718 Boxster and Cayman could be electric. And the Porsche Macan does not escape this trend of replacing octanes with volts.

Thus, The next generation of the Porsche Macan could be a fully electric SUV, which could coexist for a while with some of the gasoline versions of the current Porsche Macan, recently renewed.

And for this electric Porsche Macan, The starting point would be the platform called PPE, a development of the J1 platform used by the Porsche Taycan. Both have been developed jointly by Porsche and Audi; in fact, the future Audi e-tron GT will use this J1 platform.

The PPE platform (Premium Electric Platform) has great versatility, and is suitable for both low-floor vehicles (sedans or sports cars) as high (SUVs). Supports configurations with engines on both axles and all-wheel drive, or only on the rear axle. And uses the s800 volt electrical system which is mounted on cars with a J1 platform, such as the Taycan. This opens the way to the Ultra-fast charging, with powers of up to 350 kW.

Rumors point to the future version Turbo Tigers (yes, just like in the Taycan, the Turbo designation will also be used for the most powerful versions) will use two electric motors with a system power that would reach 700 hp, and more than 1.000 Nm of torquePorsche assures that, in any case, it will be the sportiest SUV in the segment, and that there are not many differences in the technical challenges involved in developing an electric Macan, based on the experience acquired with the Taycan.

Now it remains to be seen how Porsche engineers take advantage of the advantages of this type of vehicle in terms of development possibilities and evolution of aerodynamics, and the placement of the batteries in a position that reduces the height of the center of gravity, something very important in an SUV, and even more so if you are looking for sporty performance.
