Mercedes-Benz confirms production of the electric CLA in Rasttat

Jörg Burzer, the head of production at Mercedes-Benz, has just announced that It will be at the Rasttat plant in Germany where production of the production version of the new electric CLA will begin. As you probably already know, the German manufacturer presented a first prototype of this electric model at the IAA Mobility in Munich at the beginning of September.

Burzer also said that production of the electric CLA in Rasttat will start in 2025 and will be the brand's first vehicle based on the new MMA platform. The production version will, however, be presented before the end of 2024.

The new compact electric saloon from Mercedes-Benz will not only be produced in Rasttat, however. Some time after the first units of this electric model roll off the assembly line at the German plant, Production will also start at the Hungarian plant in Kekscemet and at the Beijing plant in China. In the latter case, to supply the Asian market. However, the exact date on which this will occur is unknown at this time.

The CLA will be the first of a new generation of electric cars from Mercedes-Benz

The technical specifications of the prototype of the electric CLA presented in Munich a few weeks ago do not seem to differ much from the production version that we will see on European roads in 2025. As we already mentioned in a previous entry, Mercedes-Benz promises a WLTP range of up to 750 km, the result of the great effort made by the company's engineers to make it one of the most efficient vehicles on the market.

The German manufacturer speaks of an energy consumption of only 12 kWh per 100 km travelled, and also promises short charging times thanks to its 800 V architecture. The use of silicon oxide anodes in the battery pack will be another of the aces up its sleeve that the electric CLA will have, to thus increase the energy density of the battery pack cells.

Let us remember, finally, that according to a recent report According to Chinese media, BYD has been the supplier chosen by Mercedes-Benz to supply lithium ferrophosphate (LFP) cells of the type BladeEverything indicates that these cells will be the ones used in the most accessible version of the electric CLA, although it is not yet known which cells will be integrated into the battery packs of the higher versions.
