Stellantis could open a battery production plant in Italy

Stellantis, the conglomerate resulting from the merger of FIAT Chrysler and the PSA Group, is apparently considering the possibility of building a new battery production plant in Italy. Sources close to the matter say that Stellantis management has already contacted the authorities in this country in order to find out what requirements they should meet and thus be able to gather more information on the possible subsidies that an initiative like this could be eligible for.

The source of this information assures, however, that at the moment everything is in a very initial phase and Nothing has been decided.

Last April, Stellantis announced its intention to start battery production at its plants in Douvrin, northern France, and Kaiserslautern in Germany. The French plant is expected to start supplying the first battery packs. by the end of 2023. Production at the Opel plant in Kaiserslauten is due to start at the end of 2025.

At the time, Stellantis also said that in the coming months it would consider opening new battery production plants in Europe and North America.

Stellantis plans to offer electric versions of virtually all of its models in Europe by 2025, and by 2030, it expects sales of hybrid and electric vehicles to account for 70 percent of the total.
