Tesla unveils plan to turn its vehicles into robotaxis

In 2020, when fully autonomous driving becomes a reality in its cars, Tesla will create a network of Robotaxis that any owner can join to earn money

At an investor event held on Monday, the American company has revealed some of the key elements it has been working on in recent years with the intention of advancing on the path towards fully autonomous driving.

During the presentation Tesla has given details about the new hardware that They already integrate all the brand's vehicles that leave the production lineElon Musk has explained that it has been designed from scratch exclusively for autonomous driving and, therefore, is fully optimized to perform this task. According to Musk, this makes it the most powerful system currently in existence in the world.

After explaining how they are using the machine learning algorithm With images captured by his entire fleet of vehicles to improve autonomous driving, Elon Musk has focused on explaining the company's plans for this year and the next.

Autonomous driving by the end of this year

Tesla's CEO believes that by the end of this year they will have the software ready for their vehicles to offer fully autonomous driving. Musk has clarified that although the vehicle will drive autonomously, initially the driver will have to continue paying attention to the road. A requirement that, however, he hopes will be may no longer be necessary by mid-2020.

At this point, Tesla will begin working with regulators in states and countries to allow autonomous driving without the need for human supervision. It's a process that will likely be lengthy, but Musk is confident that Tesla vehicles will will be able to legally circulate fully autonomously in at least one market by the end of 2020.

Tesla's plans don't end here, however; when that happens, the next step will be to establish a network of Robotaxis which all Tesla owners who wish to do so will be able to join. To do so, they will have at their disposal an updated version of the Tesla mobile application, with which they will be able to add one or more of their vehicles to start earning money with them while they are not using them.

Robotaxis that will work for you while you rest

The idea is that all the time Tesla vehicles currently spend in the garage, take advantage of it by generating income for their owners by working autonomously as RobotaxisMusk has clarified that this will obviously be optional and each owner will be able to add or not any of their vehicles to the Tesla network.

Musk has even said that from an economic point of view it is absolute madness to buy a vehicle that is not a Tesla, since only Tesla will be able to offer fully autonomous driving in the coming years. Buying a car from another brand It's going to be like buying a horse, has assured.

Tesla CEO believes a Model 3 added to Tesla's network could generate around 30 thousand gross dollars a year like Robotaxi. Considering that its cost is about 50 thousand dollars, from the second year the investment will be amortized and it will begin to generate profits for the owner.

We'll see if all these predictions come true, but the future certainly looks exciting, don't you think?
