Tesla plans to create a corridor for the Semi between Texas and California

The American manufacturer is interested in creating a corridor for its electric Semi truck with sufficient charging stations to cover the route from Texas to CaliforniaThis information has come to light after the company submitted an application to the United States federal government for a grant of $97 million to make this project a reality.

According to some recent reports published in the country's media, Tesla would contribute 24 million dollars to the projectThis request is now being reviewed by the US authorities and a final decision is expected to be made before the end of this year. If the answer is negative, it is not known whether Tesla would continue with the project and bear 100% of the investment on its own.

Tesla Semi Interior

The project presented by Tesla refers to the construction of nine charging stations for its Semi electric truck, along the almost 3 thousand kilometers of distance that separate Texas from California. Each of these nine stations would have eight charging points with a nominal power of 375 kW for each of them. According to the American manufacturer, this would allow the Semi's battery to be recharged up to 70 percent in just 30 minutes. The project also includes the installation of four charging points at each station for electric trucks of other brands.

In Europe there are already similar projects for electric trucks and also for hydrogen fuel cells.

The route chosen by Tesla has as its starting point the city of Laredo in Texas and as its final destination Fremont in California. A choice that does not seem accidental, since it would allow the company's most recent Gigafactory located in Texas to be linked to the Fremont plant. Likewise, it should not be forgotten that Laredo is located less than 300 km from Tesla's future Gigafactory in Nuevo León (Mexico).

The documentation presented by Tesla states that of the nine stations mentioned, One third of them would be located in Texas. And more specifically in the vicinity of the cities of Laredo, Fort Stockton and Sparks. The corridor that Tesla plans to create would also run through the state of Arizona, with two stations in San Simon and Phoenix. While in California the chosen locations would be Indio, Compton and Bakersfield.

The Tesla Semi's 800km range would make it possible to complete this route with no more than four stops. However, not all versions of the Semi offer this range. And, on the other hand, with nine charging stations spread along the entire route, it would be possible to carry out shorter and faster partial recharges in order to complete the route in less time.
