Volkswagen is already working on the e-Up's replacement
According to a recent report published in German media, the development of a new entry-level electric car for the German manufacturer's ID. range is already underway. This new model, which could very likely be called the ID.1, will also replace a best-seller, the urban electric e-Up.
At the Volkswagen Group they have already started working under the premise that the main attraction of this new electric It must be its price contained. The German firm's engineers will thus try to rationalise production costs, reusing, for example, many of its components in equivalent models from Cupra and Skoda. Volkswagen will also not use the MEB Entry platform that we will find in the ID.2all. This latter model will have a price below 25 thousand euros.

The Volkswagen ID.2 or ID.2all - its final name remains to be seen - will also share its platform with equivalent models from Cupra and Skoda. In the case of the Spanish firm, we already know that Its name will be Cupra Raval, in honor of the popular neighborhood of the city of Barcelona. If everything goes according to plan, the production of these electric cars from Volkswagen, Cupra and Skoda will start in 2025 at the Barcelona plant in Martorell.

Considering that the ID.2 will be priced at just under 25 thousand euros, and that the ID.1 will logically be one step below within the manufacturer's electric range, it is to be expected that The price of the latter will be around 20 thousand euros.The company appears confident that it will be able to bring this model to market at such a competitive price, thanks to the use of more affordable battery technologies and the implementation of production methods that reduce costs.

In this sense, it seems more than likely that the Volkswagen Group will begin using the low-end models of the ID family. Battery packs with lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells, as other manufacturers have been doing for some time. Let us also remember that the company plans to invest 3 billion euros in the construction of a new battery cell production plant in Sagunto (Valencia), with a production capacity of 40 GWh per year from 2026.
